Rick Cousins, Ph.D.

Research Director

Dr. Rick Cousins joined the ceedd in 2006 and is currently a Research Director and Alliance & Project Leader. Dr. Cousins joined GSK (Glaxo) medicinal chemistry in 1989, after completing chemistry post-doctoral & Ph.D. studies at University of London, and held roles of increasing responsibility, ultimately as a group leader & program leader. Dr. Cousins has worked or led programs at all stages of drug discovery including HTS, lead generation, lead optimisation and candidate selection on a wide variety of targets for many therapeutic areas including anti-virals, anti-fungals, cardiovascular, respiratory, inflammation, neurology and metabolism. Prior to joining the ceedd, Dr. Cousins was program leader for several drug discovery programs in the Respiratory CEDD, successfully identifying a number of clinical candidates. Dr. Cousins is currently with the ceedd in Europe, supporting the alliances with Chroma Therapeutics and Ranbaxy and also leads the alliance with Prosensa.
