Rob Aboud, J.D., M.S.

Vice President, Head, Global Operations & Strategy Development

Rob Aboud is Vice President, Head, Global Operations & Strategy Development, and is a member of the ceedd leadership team. In this role, he is accountable for managing and coordinating the global operations of the ceedd and for managing ceedd alliances throughout their lifespan for any required amendments or changes. Previously, Mr. Aboud was the head of Legal for the ceedd from within GSK's Business Development Transactions Team, and has served as Counsel for the ceedd since its inception in 2005. Through this role, Mr. Aboud has been involved in the negotiation and completion of nearly all of the ceedd alliances since inception, and has followed and managed the lifecycle of each alliance from the legal end to provide counseling and transactional support to work through changes and challenges in the external environment to help to arrive at win-win solutions, amendments and re-negotiations. Mr. Aboud has also been the primary legal counsel for other very active deal-making areas of GSK, such as the Immuno-Inflammation CEDD, Tempero, the Biopharm CEDD, Drug Discovery, the Rare Diseases Business Unit, and other areas. Since joining GSK in 2001, Mr. Aboud has completed as lead counsel more than 30 drug discovery and licensing alliances for GSK R&D, many of which have resulted in assets that are currently in GSK's late stage pipeline, such as assets from GSK's alliances with Prosensa, ChemoCentryx, and Human Genome Sciences.

Mr. Aboud has more than 20 total years of experience in the pharma and biotech industry, approximately half of which as a Research Biochemist, and half as a R&D transactional attorney in the life sciences. Prior to joining GSK, Mr. Aboud was a patent attorney focusing in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical areas. Mr. Aboud holds a Master of Science in biochemistry in addition to his law degree, and is also a Registered Patent Attorney. Mr. Aboud started his career as a Research Biochemist at Merck & Co. Research Laboratories, where he worked from 1989-1997 on various vaccine and biopharmaceutical pipeline projects, developing process purification steps and analyticals assays for the successful development and commercialization of new vaccines such as Merck's Vaqta®, Recombivax® and Gardasil®.
